Nobbin's quest leads to the one place Oki really can't go... and a confrontation that could put their entire mission at risk.

The *Old Vernacular* rumbled through the outer reaches of the atmosphere, picking up resistance and giving meat to the feeling of dread Oki had in the pit of her stomach. Eden V had a massive atmosphere, thanks to strange gravitational dynamics that kept more air in its vicinity than was normal — or even advisable. It was like a long sand bank off an island, just gradually petering off into nothingness. It meant you'd arrived at Eden long before you really arrived, and that suited most folks just fine.
