Bad Bad Day

Today, I tried to write a script via livewriting, using a cool new system I'd made that let a select group of people actually watch my type as I went. I did a huge amount of work to make sure it'd be as easy as possible on the server, but apparently, it was just too much. The whole thing went down for about 15 minutes. Oops.

I'm working on a variation of the theme using Google Docs, but I'm not sure it's really worth it. Might be that live-livewriting is too much for anyone but Google. We'll see. It was somewhat rushed, so I don't feel too bad about it.

One thing that's carried over from that experiment is the direct-to-Stream posting option in the console. Now any registered user can comment without having to go through Twitter first. The only catch is that it won't appear in your Twitter feed, in case you wanted it to. In a few days/weeks, I hope to have a system in place that will let the Stream update every 15 seconds or so, making it a lot more interactive.

I still have to get my script written (livewritten or not) and I have another big deadline in 24 hours, so I won't be around much... but if you have any thoughts about how to keep my server from dying under the livewriting strain, let me know...
