Features help, anyone?

MCMFriday, May 23, 2003
This post is from a version of my blog with inconsistent timestamps: evidently I was very good at defining 'modified' dates, but not 'created' dates. As such, I can't be sure when the content was actually written. Sorry!

I think it best if I split my time a little less heavily towards making Postnuke work the way I want it, and more towards reviving the old content we have stored away. To that end (and since so many people seem to know more about pn than I do), I have a few feature requests for the site that I think would be neat, and if anyone knows how to get the same effect, please let me know below...

  • Genealogy support. I have not seen anything that really works for me there. I have the family tree of quite a few characters in an actual genealogy program. Rather than just letting people download the gedcom files --- which is not a good option for most --- I'd like to make them browsable and updatable by registered users. It makes it easier to keep track of characters, I figure. Anyone know a good way to integrate that I'm going to hold off making any static pages for characters until I know, because the timelining is just not as sexy without chronology.

  • Timeline/history This is also good for making things make sense. Dustrunners takes place exactly 35 years in the future (so it's not really 'the world of 2036' anymore, actually). A lot happened between now and then, and the best way to explain it is through a timeline. Had one built before, but can't find a good alternative now. If anyone knows of one, let me know. Otherwise, I'll have to port my old one...

  • More comments: This may be obvious to some, but can you comment on images? I have a gallery module, but I'd like people to be able to comment on those images easily, and relate them to articles in the news module...

Those issues aside, the site is getting closer to an overhaul. Most of the slowness right now is due to my slow uptake of the pn inner workings...
