FreeCity Project

This post is from a version of my blog with inconsistent timestamps: evidently I was very good at defining 'modified' dates, but not 'created' dates. As such, I can't be sure when the content was actually written. Sorry!

This is just a tad premature right now, but I am going to set this up now because enough of the pieces are in place for it to work.

The FreeCity Project is a sub-set of Liberty Bell which I intend to use on other series later. Its primary function is to make the city the series takes place in more real, even if the city is completely fictional. To do this, the city is created on several levels, and is interacted with by real people who "rent" homes and "live" there. I'd call it an MMORPG, except I don't know if there's a "goal" per se.

The technology of it is covered in a sub-section, but the system depends on a series of open specs that will let people interface with the city. Ultimately, it would be cool to have the city come with extra features like email addresses and webspace for citizens, but I will leave that for another day.

So if you're into web systems and development, no matter how mundane, take a look in here and see what you can do.

Note: The FCP is being run by Wex, but at the moment I don't have posting credits attached to the articles in this system, so he's going to sign his entries for a bit :)
